Stride & Ride Combo

During the week of 19th January 2026, parts of the Coromandel were severely damaged by a storm. Unfortunately the Coastal Walkway has been affected and is currently closed. Further details are on the DOC website here.

From the 2nd February we are able to offer the following revised services and how they have been affected by the storm:-

  • Stride & Ride Combo - Hike section has been transferred to the 3 kilometre Muriwai Walk - still coastal and in a similar location to the Walkway itself.

  • Port Jackson Shuttle - The only thing that has changed with this is the time has been brought forward to 9am.

Please bear with as we move forward and manage these changes that may have affected current bookings. We will contact you all in due course.

Please however do not hesitate to phone for information.

  • Shuttle departs Colville 9am

  • Self-guided short coastal walk of 3kms over the Muriwai Trail

  • Scenic Cycle of 36kms on a quiet gravel road back to Colville

  • What better way to explore the Northern Coromandel

  • Bring Your Own Bike or Hire Ours

Please book online or phone/email ahead as our office is not always attended.

With the popularity of biking taking off around the country, we have decided to add the option to bike back after completion of a short coastal walk. The return bike trip to Colville travels over a quiet gravel road beside the beautiful Hauraki Gulf. It means you get to spend more time in the fresh open air, exploring at your leisure.

This ride has often been described as “one of the best” I’ve ever done!

Stride & Ride Options from Colville - Hire One of Our Bikes or Bring Your Own (BYO) Bike

The day is in two parts with a three kilometre coastal walk over the Muriwai Walk

Part One: This adventure starts and finishes in the small village of Colville (an easy 30 minute drive, on tarseal, north of Coromandel Town). Our shuttle travels via narrow, winding, backcountry roads to the remote location of Port Jackson.

Around 10.00am we reach the start of the Muriwai Walk at Port Jackson

Port Jackson - The start of the Muriwai Walk

The first part of the hike starts with a chilled out walk along the sprawling sands of Port Jackson Beach. Towards the end of the beach it joins the Muriwai Walk as it climbs through farmland past the former location of the Wharekaiatua Pa.

The Walk

With stunning views back to Port Jackson and across to Great Barrier it really is a special location. There are a few steps to encounter a long the way but overall this is a easy going walk that can be enjoyed by a large array of hikers.

Cape Colville

New Zealand coastal scenery at its very best. The Muriwai Walk really is an amazing experience for the senses and its also located at the tip of the Northern Coromandel.

Shuttle to Fletcher Bay

We travel the short distance to Fletcher Bay where the bike ride begins.

Part 2: Now let’s not forget the bike ride!

The bike section of up to 36 kilometres, passes over a quiet, gravel road, at times narrow and winding, but offering some great riding for several months of the year. The dreamy ride under the towering pohutukawa, beside the beautiful Hauraki Gulf, has received some great reviews. The sea is often only metres away and there is always the chance you’ll see orca and dolphins swimming close to the shore.

Add an ebike ride after the Coastal Walk and enjoy the amazing seaviews across the Hauraki Gulf along the way.

Let’s Talk Fitness, Road Surfaces and Elevations

  • The ride distance is up to 36 kilometres from Fletcher Bay. This can be shortened if you would prefer to start the ride closer home e.g. shuttle back to Port Jackson Beach and bike from there totals 30 kilometres.

  • To get the best out of your day you will need to be moderately fit.

  • The ride is on a gravel road, albeit quiet, so please ensure you are confident in these conditions.

  • As below, there are two hills to conquer, one out of Fletcher Bay, the other out of Port Jackson. This is where the power of the mighty ebike really helps.

The afternoon is yours to explore at your will in the fresh, open sea air, all the while knowing, support is never far away. So...... why not get your family or group together and let us help you explore the outdoors.  Perhaps make a weekend of it and stay a couple of nights at Susannah’s Farm Cottage.  Hereford N a Pickle is a lovely local cafe supplying brunch and lunch, pickles and farm raised hereford meat plus delicious real fruit icecreams.

We have had close to 2,000 guests complete this ride now aged from 20 years old to 80 years. The smile on their faces at the end of the ride tells it all.

Good morning,

We had such a fabulous time yesterday….even though it was a wee bit hot ha ha.

Please thank Gavin for us, he was so wonderful, so knowledgeable, and so lovely to take us up the first few hills, as we were so overheated a bit from the hike.

The bike ride was so much fun and soooooo gorgeous. And the delicious brownie really helped get us going ha ha .

Thank you so much again

Penny
