With dropoff at the Port Jackson campground around 10.30a.m., the rest of the day is all yours to explore. Take a picnic, enjoy a swim, before biking the 12 km out-and-back journey into Fletcher Bay along the knarly cliff top road with views to Great Barrier Island.

Under your steam, when you are ready, head for home via the gravel coast road beside the beautiful Hauraki Gulf. Totalling another 30kms this piece of coastline is receiving rave reviews. Under the shadows of Mt Moehau and the towering pohutukawa trees the scene is set for a stunning ride back to Colville.

This is a great ride for ebikers as the distance is well with the average battery range of many brands. There are just a couple of steeper hills along the way with the added bonus of amazing views from the summit.

The ride is on a quiet backcountry road and suits riders with average levels of fitness.

There is a minimum of four riders required for this to go ahead. Bookings are essential.

  • Colville to Waikawau Bike

    The Stock Route

This ride runs from Colville, up to the start at the top of Big Bay Hill. The trail veers to the left of the main driveway and heads through regenerating bush all the way to the summit, approx 200 metres above sealevel. Not bad views either from the Gulf in the west to Mercury Bay in the east. At the summit, the surface changes from 4wd to off-road trail, complete with a few short challenges. (Suits Grade 3+, intermediate riders). With cover from native bush to pine forest this really is a varied ride, especially as it pops out onto a quiet backcountry road and then onto Waikawau Beach.

While you are there its definitely worth visiting Little Bay a quiet, secluded spot that comes as quite a surprise. Return via the same route or take the Port Charles Road back to Colville. This is a gravel surface and makes for an interesting return trip. All up, out and back approx 30kms.

This ride makes for a great challenge and is over some classic Coromandel surfaces from gravel, 4wd and clay. It definitely has some challenging aspects but oh, the elation at the end upon completion is well worth the effort.

We have recently invested in a Garmin navigation system to ensure you don’t get lost along the way.

  • Waitete Bay to Colville Ride

    Waitete Bay - Colville

Makes a great loop ride from Colville with a 50/50 blend of road riding and off road trails.

Head out on the road, past Mahamudra a peaceful and welcoming Tibetan Buddhist Retreat Centre. Just across the road is White Star Station with its beautiful Hereford cattle grazing the lush grassy pastures.

The infamous Limeworks Hill is a challenge in itself climbing to 152 metres over a distance of 0.5km. Reach the summit before descending to Waitete Bay on the right at the bottom.

Follow the beach to Woods Road South and head to the end. The track drops down to the left, through a small stream and onto a short section of single track before rising up onto a farm track via a section of baby Redwoods.

A quiet offroad trail greets you surrounded by a gorgeous section of NZ native bush. Finish off with a downhill on a quiet, backcountry gravel road all the way into Colville Village.

Approx 17kms, variety of surfaces, any tricky bits can be walked. The beauty of starting and finishing in Colville is you can enjoy a post ride coffee at the Hereford n a Pickle cafe.

Tack on the Stock Route if you still have some tickle left in your pedals.
